At first, I thought about meeting at a café, but then I figured everyone would feel much more relaxed at my place. Plus, we could talk and laugh as much as we wanted without worrying about disturbing anyone. And I think it was the right decision, because we ended up chatting until after midnight.
When everyone arrived, I gave them the souvenirs I’d brought... little dodo birds, which are the symbol of Mauritius. Then I showed my photos of the island’s amazing nature and told them about my trip in detail. After that, the conversation naturally turned to our own lives, since we hadn’t seen each other for a while and everyone had plenty of news to share.
As for the food, I had stocked up on wine during my stopover in Dubai, so we had that with juicy steaks, cheese, grapes, and nuts. Later I served ice cream and some cakes I had baked myself. And of course, as always, my friends asked me to make mint lemonade, which has become kind of a tradition.
It was a wonderful evening — delicious food, lots of laughter, and just the joy of being together. Definitely one of those dinners you remember for a long time.
The highlight of the evening was that my friends convinced me to try oysters for the very first time. They ordered a huge plate, and while they were happily eating and saying how delicious they were, I was still hesitating. Everyone was teasing me and cheering me on, and finally I gave in and tried one. At first, the texture was awful and I almost regretted it, but with everyone laughing and encouraging me, I decided to try again. Surprisingly, the second and third oysters actually tasted good, and before I realized it, I’d eaten nearly as many as they had.
Of course, oysters weren’t the only thing we had. We also shared grilled fish, Greek salad, fresh bread, and some local wine. We were talking, laughing, and enjoying the food for hours. What made it so special was not just the seafood, but the company... being with my friends, joking around, and creating memories together.
Looking back, that dinner stands out as one of the best meals I’ve ever had. It was delicious, fun, and unforgettable, you know, the kind of evening you always remember with a smile.
