I think people are naturally hard-wired to protect the environment. For thousands of years, humans depended on nature for survival, so protecting it was essential. Even today, we feel happier and calmer in clean, green spaces. Many cultures and traditions include respect for the land, water, and animals. When people see pollution or deforestation, they often feel sadness or guilt, which shows a natural reaction. Younger generations also seem very passionate about protecting the planet. Of course, not everyone acts on this instinct, but the feeling is still there. So I believe caring for the environment is a deep human quality.
I don’t believe people are hard-wired to protect the environment. If that were true, we wouldn’t see so much pollution and destruction today. For most of history, people have used natural resources without thinking about long-term consequences. Many individuals value comfort, technology, or profit more than nature. For example, they prefer driving cars every day, even if it damages the air. People usually change their behavior only when problems affect them directly. Environmental awareness often comes from education and campaigns, not from instincts. That’s why I think protecting the environment is a choice, not something people are born with.
