Do you think parents should buy more toys for their kids or spend more time with them? (added on 6 October 2025)

- • I’m convinced parents should spend more time with their kids because:
-
•
kids remember time with parents more than toys (they forget what they got, but they don’t forget who played with them) -
•
playing together teaches communication, patience, and problem-solving… things no toy can teach on its own -
•
children need emotional connection more than material things; time together builds trust and confidence -
•
many kids already have too many toys and end up getting bored of them quickly -
•
when parents play with kids, even simple things like drawing, cooking, or going for a walk become special memories -
•
spending time doesn’t cost money, but it gives kids something expensive toys can’t - attention and love
I’d say spending time with kids is way more important than just buying them more toys. Most children already have plenty, and they get bored of them pretty quickly. A toy can keep them busy for a few days, but it doesn’t really give them what they need emotionally. What actually matters is the time they spend with their parents. Those moments really stick. For example, a kid might forget a toy they got for Christmas, but they’ll remember baking cookies with their mom or playing football with their dad. Those little things create memories and make children feel loved and safe. When parents spend time together with their kids, they also learn more about them… what they like, what they’re afraid of, what makes them laugh. Of course, toys aren’t useless. Some of them can actually help kids learn new things or develop imagination, especially if parents join in. But when toys start replacing real attention, that’s when it becomes a problem. Kids don’t really need a new gadget. They just want someone to play with, talk to, and laugh with.
