What are the differences between the things that people keep today and the things that people kept in the past?
Vocabulary hozircha yo‘q.
- • I think in the past people valued:
-
•
handwritten letters and postcards -
•
printed photos and photo albums -
•
books, newspapers, magazines -
•
valuable dishes, cutlery, porcelain -
•
vinyl records, cassettes, CDs -
•
clothes repaired many times -
•
souvenirs and gifts from relatives -
•
family documents and certificates -
•
household tools and kitchenware - • I think today people mostly keep:
-
•
smartphones, laptops, tablets -
•
digital photos and videos -
•
trendy clothes and accessories -
•
fitness trackers and smartwatches -
•
skincare items and beauty products -
•
gaming consoles and devices -
•
receipts and guarantees for things -
•
tickets and small souvenirs from trips -
•
lots of ‘stuff’ bought online - • I think the main differences between the things people value today and in the past concern:
-
•
physical vs digital memories (in the past, people kept printed photos and handwritten letters, while today they often save pictures and messages on phones or cloud storage) -
•
durability vs disposability (in the past, items were made to last for many years, while today many things are designed for short use and then thrown away) -
•
necessity vs lifestyle (in the past, people kept things they needed to survive and run their homes, while today people keep things to improve comfort or style) -
•
repairing vs replacing (in the past, people usually fixed broken clothes or furniture, while today they often buy new ones instead of repairing) -
•
keeping for emotional value vs showing on social media (in the past, people kept souvenirs and gifts to remember special moments, while today many prefer to post pictures online to share memories with others) -
•
simple possessions vs consumerism (before, people had fewer possessions and valued them more, but now many people buy too much and don’t even use half of it)
Well, I think in the past people mostly kept household tools and kitchenware, because they needed them for daily life and didn’t change them often. They also kept books and newspapers, since reading was one of the main forms of entertainment. Today, people mostly keep fitness trackers or smartwatches, because health gadgets are really popular now. They also keep lots of beauty products or skincare items, which wasn’t so common before. I think the main differences between the things people keep today and in the past concern necessity vs lifestyle. In the past, people kept things they needed to survive and run their homes, while today people keep things to improve comfort or style. Another difference is simplicity vs consumerism. Before, people had fewer possessions and valued them more, but now many people buy too much and don’t even use half of it. So what people keep has really shifted from practical needs to personal lifestyle choices. And I think that says a lot about how society has changed.
